The AA was formed in 1905 famously meeting in the Trocadero Restaurant in London. Memberhip of the organisation grew rapidly and five years later they had patrols across the country. Intially the cycle scouts were employed at weekends to advise members of police traps ahead, but this soon changed as they began helping stranded motorists. In the late 1940’s the introduction of two-way radio transformed the organisation as they were able to be contacted centrally to attend a members vehicle. The Automobile Association has long been associated with roadside rescue and motor-related home assistance but in recent years has been stretching its services to include all sorts of other things. Here we see it on the contemporary Ford Transit Short Wheel Base vehicle with low roof option, promoting itself not only as a breakdown vehicle but also ‘rescuing homes too’, with cleverly applied black silhouettes of rows of houses. The signature colour scheme of yellow and black remains the same except for the back which features high visibility red chevrons and rear panel with essential contact details printed in black out of red. Registered LC61 DVA, finishing touches include a black interior and silvered wheel inserts.
